American Cars Make International Debuts in Shanghai
The Shanghai Motor Show in China may not be the most well-known, hyped-up shows in the world, but it does give an important glimpse into the international auto market, especially the rising Chinese market.
While it features some incredibly unique designs and concepts, it also gives domestic automakers like Chrysler and GM the chance to show off their upcoming products to the national market.

According to General Motors North America President Mark Ruess, GM (GMC and Chevrolet’s parent company) is getting back into the smaller truck segment, with two all new trucks coming next year.
While Ruess succeeded in keeping the details to himself, he said these new pickups (one for Chevy and one for GMC) will have better fuel economy and will be able to do 95% of the work done by a full-size pickup.

Rivals are teaming up.
In an effort to efficiently manufacture 9 and 10-speed transmissions, Ford and General Motors, the parent company of Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet and Buick, will join forces.
The gearboxes will be made for a wide range of vehicles, including cars, crossovers, trucks, and full-size SUVs.
While this partnership may seem like Alabama and Auburn teaming up to field a football team, the two companies say combining forces will allow the transmissions to be made faster and cheaper, creating more affordable cars without sacrificing quality.

Four Japanese automakers are recalling a combined 3.4 million vehicles globally, led by Toyota, who is seeing the 2nd recall of over 1 million vehicles since January of this year.
The recall is due to a malfunctioning airbag inflator, which can deploy abnormally during a crash. The defective airbag components can cause a fire and propel loose fragments on the passenger side.
Parts manufacturer Takata Corp. is the supplier of the airbag parts, which were installed into Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda vehicles.

General Motors’ three large crossover SUVs have earned 5-Star overall safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
2013 models of the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia all received the administration’s top possible rating.
The three crossovers all share a platform and many features with each other. The vehicles were updated for 2013 with enhanced safety features and rejuvenated styling.
All earned 5-star ratings in frontal and side tests and four stars in rollover tests. Both front and all-wheel drive versions were tested.
GM Crossovers Receive Superb Safety Ratings
The Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia earned 5-Star Safety Ratings
Safety features in these vehicles include multiple air bags, electronic stability control, and child safety locks.
GM’s seven passenger crossovers make excellent vehicles for families and individuals who want a safe, affordable, and reliable vehicle. They have a wide range of features, and offer owners space, convenience, and fuel-economy.
The crossovers also received excellent safety marks from other research and testing groups. For example, all three received 9.8 ratings from U.S. New & World Report.
The NHTSA is an executive branch of the U.S. government that focuses on vehicle safety and testing. It also monitors safety equipment and vehicle parts. Some of the techniques, regulations, and conclusions by NHTSA have even been adopted by other countries.
