The Chevrolet Tahoe is a spacious powerhouse with confident handling and superb ride quality. Every Tahoe is equipped with an E85 FlexFuel-capable 5.3-liter Vortec™ V8 and a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission. That V8 is capable of 320 hp and 335 lb/ft of torque and, in combination with the Tahoe’s fully boxed frame, provides a generous towing capacity of up to 8,500 pounds. That impressive power and tow rating comes with an EPA-estimated 21 mpg highway (2WD models), thanks in part to Active Fuel Management (AFM), which can deactivate as many as four cylinders during light driving conditions. This transition is seamless and takes less than 20 milliseconds, meaning you feel virtually nothing.

While the interior of Tahoe has always been a comfortable place to spend time, Chevrolet has graced the 2012 model with various improvements including a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel that’s standard on the LTZ. New for 2012, previously optional heated seats are now standard on the LT trim level. To enhance Tahoe entertainment credentials, the 2012 model offers a new hard-drive navigation radio with USB port, Time Shift Recording capability and available SiriusXM Weather Service. Side Blind Zone Alert is now standard on LTZ trims, and LT and LTZ trims offer an available rear-seat entertainment system that includes a DVD player with remote control and overhead display. Features like the optional power-retractable assist steps and available chrome recovery hooks on 4WD models (standard on LTZ 4WD, black recovery hooks are standard on LS and LT 4WD) give the Tahoe an undeniable presence. For even more visual punch, the LT trim is available with the Z71 Off-Road Appearance Package. The package adds 18-inch all-terrain tires, color-keyed wheel flares, satin chrome tubular assist steps and an aggressive front fascia with a bright chrome grille insert. The Tahoe is available in 10 exterior colors including the new-for-2012 Crystal Red Tintcoat, Silver Ice Metallic and Blue Topaz Metallic (late availability).

Keeping your family safe is just as important as keeping them comfortable. Tips for Positive Thinking

1. Get over feeling funny! – Doing something new takes practice. Positive self-affirmations can feel unfamiliar and so it may feel funny at first. Get over it. It doesn’t usually feel funny to talk negatively to ourselves, but praise can feel awkward. Don’t worry if it feels funny. In time, this feeling will diminish.
2. Begin your affirmation with “I.” – The more personal you make the message, the more you will begin to believe it.
3. Use the present tense. – Positive self talk should be in the present tense or in the “here-and-now”. This gives the statements more power. Avoid words like can, could, or should.
4. Focus on behaviors you can control. – It’s not possible to change or control a co-workers behavior. Focus positive affirmations on you and your goals, rather than waiting for someone else to change.
5. Repeat them often. – Repetition facilitates learning. The more positive self-talk you do, the more it becomes a part of you. Writing these down helps ingrain these thoughts as well.

There’s no question that the Honda Civic has been a popular and admired compact model. Chevrolet, however, designed the Cruze to deliver features and benefits that the Civic simply does not. A factual comparison between the two, with some help from respected media, tells the story.

While numbers never tell the whole story, they provide a place to start this comparison between two obvious competitors. In the Civic camp, the LX model starts at an MSRP of $17,855. The comparable Cruze model is the 1LT trim level with an MSRP of $18,475. The $620 difference disappears – big time – when you consider major advantages for the Cruze.

Both cars offer comparable fuel economy: The Civic LX with a five-speed manual transmission yields 28 mpg city/36 mpg highway while the Cruze 1LT with its advanced, six-speed manual transmission comes in at 26 mpg city/38 mpg highway. The Cruze has a 15.6-gallon fuel tank versus a 13.2-gallon tank in the Civic. That translates into nearly 120 miles longer highway driving range in the Cruze.

If you prefer an automatic transmission, the Chevy Cruze offers a six-speed with the same fuel economy ratings as those of the manual transmission. The Civic offers an optional five-speed automatic.

In the Civic LX, a 1.8-liter engine produces 140 hp while in the Cruze 1LT, a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine offers 138 hp. That looks close, but the Cruze turbo engine trumps the Civic on torque, the force that actually moves the car. The Cruze turbo engine produces 148 lb/ft of torque at a very low engine speed, just 1,850 rpm. The Civic LX engine makes 128 lb/ft, and you have to rev the engine to 4,300 rpm to get it. The difference this makes on the road is enormous, and it means that the Cruze is noticeably more responsive in every day driving.

Scanning media reviews of the Civic, you will find criticism for road noise; various reviews of the Cruze, however, praise its quietness and substantial driving feel. That’s the payoff for Chevrolet applying 30 different acoustical treatments throughout the Cruze to make it feel and ride more like a midsize model. Car and Driver magazine said,

“That interior is a serene place to pass the miles. The Cruze was the Buick LaCrosse of the group, its solid structure and soft suspension keeping it supremely isolated on freeway slogs.”

Comparing the Cruze to the luxurious Buick LaCrosse is high praise indeed.

The Cruze is a bit longer and wider than the Civic, and the differences pay dividends in handling, as well as passenger room and trunk room. The Cruze, for example, offers nearly half an inch more headroom front and rear, 2.5 inches more hip room in front and an inch more hip room in the rear. Sit in both cars, and you’ll feel what a difference the extra room makes in the Cruze.

Highway driving range, interior room and quietness superior to the Civic make the Chevrolet Cruze an ideal long-distance driver. Also good for long-distance drives, a 15.4 cubic-foot trunk in the Cruze easily tops the Civic with its 12.5 cubic feet and even beats the 14.7 cubic-foot trunk of the midsize Honda Accord.

Many would agree that these fundamental differences make the Cruze 1LT a better value than the Civic LX. But there’s even more to the Cruze value story when comparing to Civic, especially with standard features. The Cruze powertrain warranty, for example, stretches to 100,000 miles, compared to just 60,000 miles for the Civic. The Cruze comes equipped with 10 airbags, versus six for the Civic, and the Cruze 1LT rolls on standard 16-inch alloy wheels, versus 16-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers for the Civic LX. Both cars feature steering wheel audio and cruise control switches, but the Cruze also adds standard Bluetooth® phone connectivity with a steering wheel switch. The standard Cruze 1LT audio system offers six speakers to the four in the Civic LX, and the Cruze 1LT also includes standard SiriusXM Satellite Radio with three months of complimentary service.

Finally, like all 2012 Chevrolet models, the Cruze comes standard with OnStar and the Directions & Connections® Plan for the first six months including Turn-by-Turn Navigation. No Honda Civic offers anything like OnStar, for any price.

The full-size truck segment is crowded, but some entries stand out above the rest. The 2012 Ram trucks are uniquely talented, A-plus students that have a jump on everyone else with some exclusive new changes for 2012.

Tuesday, October 4th, Gavin and Audrey McGrath welcomed their first child, Hayes Bernard McGrath, into the world! Gavin is the General Sales Manager at Pat McGrath Dodge Country and Pat’s only son of three children. Hayes was born at St. Luke’s Hospital at 11:32 am. He is Pat and Mary Kay McGrath’s first Grandchild. Gavin and Audrey decided to Honor Gavin’s grandpa Horace Bernard by giving Hayes the same initials so he would also be H.B. McGrath, which is was Horace was most commonly called. Hayes will be three weeks old next Tuesday and is already spoiled by his parents and grandparents! Congratulations to the McGrath family!
