CDK Cyber Attack: McGrath Dealerships Not Affected

June 25, 2024 By Andria Homewood

Recently, a series of cyber attacks targeting CDK Global, a well-known provider of integrated technology solutions to the automotive retail industry, has disrupted dealerships across the country, resulting in major operational setbacks, and compromised customer data.

McGrath Family of Dealerships deeply value your trust and confidence. We understand that news of such breaches can cause concern, particularly when it involves sensitive data and personal information. We have received numerous inquiries from concerned customers regarding the recent CDK Global incidents, and we would like to clarify the following.

McGrath Family of Dealerships Not Affiliated with CDK Global

We’d like to assure you McGrath Family of Dealerships has no affiliation with CDK Global. We do not use any CDK software or systems for our operations. Our IT infrastructure and customer data management systems are entirely independent of those affected by the recent breaches, meaning no direct impact on our systems or your data has occurred.

Key Facts About the Attack

  • CDK Global Incident: CDK Global, which provides various services to car dealerships, including online appointment scheduling and inter-department messaging tools, confirmed that they are investigating a cyber incident.
  • System Shutdown: As a precautionary measure, CDK Global shut down most of its systems to contain the breach. This preemptive action has caused significant operational disruptions for many dealerships.
  • Timeline of Disruption: The disruption began around 2 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Since then, dealerships have struggled to maintain normal operations without access to CDK Global’s systems.
  • Manual Operations: Some dealerships have been forced to revert to manual record-keeping for routine services, while others have been completely incapacitated, unable to process sales or manage inventories effectively.
  • Partial Restoration: CDK Global later announced that some systems had been restored, including the core dealer management system and digital retailing solutions. However, many dealerships are still facing challenges as they transition back to digital operations.

Your Peace of Mind Matters
