Chevy’s innovative two-mode technology delivers the capability and hauling power full-size drivers demand, along with smoothness and fuel economy other pickups in its class simply can’t match. Blending an electric motor, Chevy’s Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine and a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery stashed beneath the vehicle’s backseats, the Silverado puts up impressive numbers on both ends of the spectrum.
Combined output is 332 hp and 367 lb/ft of torque, more than enough to confidently tow up to 6,100 pounds and carry another 1,553 in payload (the hybrid’s electronic variable transmission features tap up/tap down shift control for improved smoothness during gear transitions – a big help while towing). Simultaneously, the Silverado Hybrid delivers an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city/23 mpg highway fuel economy. That is 25 percent better city mileage than the Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150, and up to 30 percent better than the Ram. In fact, the Silverado Hybrid city mileage is better than even a V6-equipped Honda Accord.

At low speeds, or when hauling a light load, Chevy’s hybrid can operate strictly on electric power (up to 30 mph, even when hauling a trailer), engine power or an efficient combination of both. At higher speeds, steeper grades or when hauling heavy loads, the electric motor provides support for the Silverado’s hefty V8, which in turn can conserve fuel itself by automatically powering down four cylinders when all eight aren’t necessary. The energy that’s created while coasting or braking is converted into electricity, which in turn goes toward recharging the hybrid’s battery.
As mentioned, the Silverado’s powerful battery is located below the rear seat, a design feature that’s one of many meant to improve the hybrid’s exceptionally quiet cabin and surprisingly smooth ride. The pickup’s intake and exhaust have been tuned to maximize flow and minimize interior noise while a set of “quiet-tuned” low-rolling-resistance tires wrap around the Silverado’s massive chrome wheels and lessen harsh road noise. Chevy’s standard StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control ensures commanding handling and precision. It works seamlessly with an electronic power-steering system engineered to limit vibration, and a hydraulic body mount designed to improve smoothness on rough roads and highways.
Inside, the Silverado’s sophisticated ride is matched by an equally sophisticated cabin; the purposeful grit and determination of its design is nicely balanced by the inviting modernism and comfort of its cockpit. Standard with XM Satellite Radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth wireless technology and two zones of climate control, the Silverado Hybrid is well equipped straight off the lot. 2HY trims get leather upholstery, bucket seats, rear parking assist, a touch-screen navigation system (with voice recognition and real-time traffic) and a Bose® premium audio system.
For tech-savvy families and ultra-connected worksites, an available Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile turns the Silverado into a moving wireless Internet hotspot, allowing for web connection for multiple devices inside the vehicle and up to 150 feet around it. Two free-to-download apps, myChevrolet and the OnStar MyLink™ app, give Silverado Hybrid owners flexibility and freedom. The myChevrolet “Find my Car” feature uses the power of Google Maps to let you mark your vehicle’s location on a GPS map, set parking meter alarms and locate the nearest Chevy dealer, among other things, quickly and easily with your smartphone. With OnStar MyLink, you can remotely start the truck, control the door locks, check vehicle diagnostics and more from your smartphone.
For added confidence, Chevy’s hybrid is built with a reinforced safety cage and intelligently placed crush zones, which absorb the energy of an impact before it reaches the cabin. Daytime running lights, four-wheel antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitor come standard, as does Chevy’s OnStar system (with automatic crash response) and a set of six airbags including standard head-curtain side-impact airbags front and rear. The 2011 Silverado’s advanced hybrid system even comes backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile limited warranty, in addition to Chevy’s five-year/100,000-mile transferable Powertrain Warranty.
Old-school capability meets new-age efficiency. The first of its kind, the 2011 Chevy Silverado Hybrid delivers where others can’t.
