Think gas prices in America are expensive? You could live in Turkey, where fuel reaches around $9.39, according to a recent survey conducted by Car and Driver.
For the study, Car and Driver used the most commonly used fuel source in each country, not necessarily just gasoline. For example, they used standard gasoline in for the US, sugar-based ethanol in Brazil, and leaded crud in Ghana.
At the time of the study US prices averaged about 3.85.
Globally, prices fluctuate so much from country-to-country and day-to-day that it can be tough to keep track of all the different prices. In Peru and Colombia, the price for gallon of fuel is around 6.00; next-door in Venezuela the price is around 0.06! That’s right- Venezuela citizens pay the equivalent of 6 cents per gallon to fill up.
Obviously politics and global conditions make a huge difference in the price of gas. Europe maintains the highest gas prices across a continent, with France around $7.50 countries such as the UK and Germany paying over $8.00, and Italy and Norway joining Turkey in the nine-dollar-and-up club.
Egypt pays about $1.00, and Libya, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia all pay under a buck.
In case you’re wondering, our hockey-loving neighbors to the north pay about 5.14, while our Mexican friends pay about 3.24
