GM has become the first U.S. auto maker to provide American drivers with 1 million 30-mpg-or-better vehicles in a single year.
All of GM’s four brands, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, have at least one vehicle that achieves over 30 miles per gallon.
“Our investments in advanced powertrains are clearly paying off, and our smaller vehicles are resonating with customers,” said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America. “In 2013, we’ll introduce new diesel, eAssist and plug-in vehicles in the United States and expand the availability of turbocharged four-cylinder engines.”
GM has made such a large commitment to fuel efficiency that four Chevrolet cars, the Spark, Cruze, Volt, and Sonic, achieve 30 mpg combined city and highway.
For the coming year, Buick will release a 33 mpg Encore crossover, and Cadillac will offer the ELR extended-range electric vehicle.
Chevy plans to extend eAssist availability to the redesigned Impala. The GMC Terrain, which currently reaches 32 mpg, will continue to rise as a fuel efficient crossover-SUV.
As the first car maker to sell over 1 million 30 mpg or higher, GM has shown what American ingenuity can accomplish.
GM has provided such innovative technologies as the eAssists and ECOTEC assisted engines.
