One of our most frequently asked service questions we get here at McGrath is: “Can I swap wheels from a different model of vehicles to another?” When it comes to swapping out wheels from one make and model to another, there are a few things to consider before getting started.
Consider: Bolt Pattern
Start by assessing the bolt pattern on both vehicles. Will the wheels bolt up to the axels on the vehicle? Wheels come in several different bolt patters, 4-LUG, 5-LUG, 6-LUG, 8-LUG, and Dual. Knowing which bolt patterns line up is key for the success of the wheel exchange.
Consider: Differences with Newer Vehicle Models
Nearly all newer vehicle models have a tire pressure monitoring system. Before swapping the wheels, make sure that the proper tire pressure monitor is installed to the wheel before swapping them. Having the same tire pressure monitor system installed does not happen very frequently.
