For even more power, the iconic 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with fuel-saving cylinder shut-off and Variable Valve Timing delivers best-in-class fuel economy for V8 trucks (and 20 percent better than the previous V8 powertrain) while maintaining brute strength of 395 hp and 407 lb/ft of torque. With best-in-class towing and payload of 11,500 pounds and 3,125 pounds respectively, the HEMI powerplant in the 2013 Ram 1500 fully lives up to its legendary name.
Both engines can be equipped with the class-exclusive TorqueFlite 8, an eight-speed transmission that doubles the available gears compared to the previous transmission for improved durability and greatly enhanced fuel economy. In place of both column and floor shifters, the TorqueFlite 8 features a rotary electronic-shift dial for added convenience and ease of operation, even with work gloves on. Because there are no floor shifters, more space is available inside the cabin. The new shifter was designed and located specifically to make shifting quick and intuitive.
A thermal management system in the TorqueFlite 8 is another segment-exclusive feature, helping raise engine and transmission fluid temperatures quickly. The result is improved fuel economy, drivability and shift quality. Further enhancing fuel efficiency is the start-stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine when the Ram 1500 is at a complete stop, restarting when the brake is released.

The 2013 Ram 1500 is available with an all-new air-suspension system with five height settings – “Normal Ride Height” (NRH), “Aero Mode,” “Off-road 1,” “Off-road 2,” and “Park Mode” – to provide optimum ride and aerodynamics across a variety of conditions. The new air suspension, which offers both automatic and manual operation, provides up to four inches of lift span and gives the Ram 1500 best-in-class ground clearance (10.7 inches), step-in height (21 inches), breakover angle (24.2 degrees) and departure angle (27.8 degrees). Outside, the 2013 Ram 1500 sports a more prominent grille with brighter headlights, LED taillamps and chrome accents. The innovative RamBox cargo management system can now be remotely locked with the key fob. In front of the driver is the available seven-inch Vehicle Information Center, with three customized, reconfigurable readouts including digital speed, fuel economy, vehicle data and multi-media information from the Uconnect system.
