BUDD-e: The Futuristic and Innovative Volkswagen Electric Concept Car

January 9, 2016 By Alexandra Sydor

The zero-emissions, quirky Volkswagen BUDD-e concept car is designed to resemble the classic VW microbus from the 1960s and 1970s.  It can drive up to 373 miles per charge and can go as fast as 93 miles per hour.

Learn more about BUDD-e! Check out the video, images and specs!

BUDD-e’s driving range is almost equivalent to that of a gasoline-using vehicle because of Volkswagen’s newest Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB) platform. Typically, batteries for electric cars are very bulky, but BUDD-e’s 101 kWh battery is incorporated into the car’s floor. What is even more impressive is that it features cordless inductive charging and can charge to 80 percent battery in thirty minutes less than other electric vehicles!

Unlike any other car, BUDD-e can communicate with your Smart Home or office, like control the air budd-e_concept_5808conditioning, turn lights on and off and check up on your kids while they are home.

With the wave of your hand, BUDD-e will open the car doors for you and your passengers. With a simple foot movement near the rear of the car, the trunk will open.

Instead of having an infotainment system and an electronic instrument budd-e_concept_5810
display, Volkswagen replaced them with a single 12.3-inch Active
Information Display
that is found right in front of the driver. The left budd-e_concept_5805section shows trip data, vehicle status and assistance system information. The middle portion has navigation with a 3-D map. Finally, the right section displays weather, audio, messages and a calendar.

Activate voice command control by simply saying “Hello, BUDD-e.” The system even knows which person is giving the commands. For example, if the front passenger says “It’s too hot in here,” BUDD-e will adjust the temperature in the passenger’s area.
