The 2016 Jeep Renegade was a first-time contestant and won Consumers Digest’s Subcompact SUV award.

The base engine is a 160-horsepower turbocharged 1.4 liter that puts out 184 lb-ft of torque and has a six-speed manual gearbox. Also, buyers have the option of selecting the 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter that creates 175 lb-ft of torque and is combined with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The Renegade is the only subcompact on the market with a nine-speed 
automatic gearbox.
AWD is available, and it provides settings to drive through mud, sand, and snow. The top-of-the-line Trailhawk model has a rock setting since it has an inch more ground clearance and has different bumpers that allow it to travel on steep, angled roads. It can drive on boulders almost as large as its 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels.
The Jeep Renegade — which gets an estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway — has stability control and seven airbags. Available features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind-spot monitors and lane departure warning.
