How to Use the Volkswagen Touchscreen Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II)

November 23, 2015 By Alexandra Sydor

Many of the 2016 Volkswagen vehicles — the Jetta, Beetle, Golf, Passat, CC and Tiguan — will come with the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II).

Even though this is the second generation of the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II), it will be introduced for the first time in the U.S. market in the 2016 Volkswagen models.2016-VW-MIB-II-carnet

The system uses a capacitive touch sensor (like that in smartphones and tablets) that recognizes swiping and pinch-zooming.

Entry level VW models will be equipped with a Composition Color touchscreen radio with a 5-inch resistive 400 x 240 display. Through the system, it will have features like AUX, SD card slots, USB ports, reverse camera display and Bluetooth.

Incorporating features of the Composition Color, the Composition Media unit adds an 800 x 480 touch display with either a 6.5-inch screen for the Golf or a 6.3-inch screen for all of the other VW models. Through this system, you can send and receive text messages, link two phones simultaneous, use two SD card slots, have a JPEG viewer, access SiriusXm Radio and play HD Radio.

The VW Infotainment System will have three Car-Net smartphone app packages.

e-Remote

The Car-Net e-Remote package allows easy access to your vehicle’s main functions.

  • Air Conditioning, Battery Management, Departure Time, Driving Data, Parking Position and Doors and Lights

Guide and Inform

The Car-Net Guide and Inform package provides you with directions and points of interest.

  • POI Voice Search, Online POI Search, Destination Import, Personal POI, Online Traffic Information, Fuel Info, News, Parking Info and Weather

App-Connect

Through MirrorLink, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, access your phone’s apps through the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II).

With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, access all Google apps and other apps like Spotify, Skype and Audible.
