The Durango’s ground-up redesign resulted in a new unibody whose torsional rigidity surpasses even that of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. An all-new suspension, aggressive shock and spring rates, large sway bars and a muscular new exterior underscore the athletic nature of this unique new SUV.
The fully redesigned interior that greets Durango occupants is among the best in the class, if not the best overall. The theme is “upscale.” Designed by the same team that delivered the stunning new Jeep® Grand Cherokee’s interior, the Durango’s cabin boasts a fanatical attention to detail. Tight panel gaps and premium-grade materials provide a look that’s as pleasing to touch as it is to look at. Regardless of trim, when you touch the Durango’s instrument panel, offered in both monotone and attractive two-tone looks, you’ll be greeted with soft-touch materials. The 2011 Durango offers a pair of world-class engines, both of which deliver a sporty, refined and exhilarating experience. The new DOHC 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) combines an effortless 290 hp (38 percent better than the previous V6) and 260 lb/ft of torque (an increase of 11 percent) with 23 mpg highway fuel efficiency. Tow capacity is best-in-class for a V6.
Durango’s 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with VVT and a fuel-saver mode is a legend in its own right, delivering 360 hp and an awesome 390 lb/ft of torque. Even so, the HEMI Durango still pulls down 20 mpg on the highway with either rear- or all-wheel drive. It’s also a workhorse offering 7,400 pounds of towing capacity – again, best in class. Two full-time all-wheel drive systems are offered. The V8 version features a low-range transfer case for added versatility and easy towing.
