Dodge’s Next Great Muscle Car
At Pat McGrath Dodge Country, we’re excited as your Cedar Rapids Dodge dealership to be able to present Dodge’s next great American muscle car. The 2015 SRT Barracuda will succeed the current rebirth of Dodge’s venerable muscle car, the 2013 Challenger, which we have now right here on our lot. Let’s take a look at what the future of Dodge holds.
A Top Performing Sports Car
The Barracuda will join the Viper under the SRT brand. SRT positions these vehicles separately from Dodge and Chrysler’s more consumer-oriented models. This brand allows the manufacturer to really flex its engineering muscles to make no holds barred performance-oriented cars. While the Viper hasn’t changed much from the basic formula that has always made it a popular supercar, the Barracuda will be a radical change from past sports cars from these brands.
Brand New Platform
The Barracuda will be based on an all-new performance platform that Dodge’s owner Fiat may use on a number of different cars, including Maserati models. This platform will be a slimmed down, smaller, and lighter platform than the current Challenger. The Barracuda will be up to eight inches shorter than the Challenger, and two inches narrower. Chances are it will be lighter by almost 300 pounds, and the suspension design may change from control arms up front to struts.
Projected Powertrain Options
The engine will probably come in several different options. Since fuel efficiency, even in the performance aspect of the market, is increasingly important and regulated by governments around the world, the car will probably have an optional 2.4L inline 4-cylinder Tigershark engine. Other engine options may include a 3.6L Pentastar V6, and either the 5.7L or 6.4L version of the Hemi V8.
The 2015 SRT Barracuda is shaping up to be a suitable rebirth of the original Plymouth Barracuda from the golden age of Detroit muscle cars. Until this exciting car hits dealerships, check out the current Dodge Challenger before it’s gone forever.
