2014 Kia Optima Comparison: LX or EX?

March 6, 2014 By Kif Richmann

Drivers looking for a great vehicle often turn to the 2014 Kia Optima, With a tremendous interior, generous standard feature, and powerful engines, the Optima has quickly risen to the top of most shopper’s lists.

While the 2014 Optima is clearly a great choice, selecting the right one can be difficult. Two of the most popular trim packages are the LX and EX models. Each one of these trims offers an excellent combination of high-quality features and practical affordability. So which one is right for you? Let’s find out by comparing both models.

2014 Kia Optima LX VS 2014 Kia Optima EX

2014 White Optima LX and Optima EX

To start, let’s discuss what these two Optimas have in common.
Both are available with 2.4L four-cylinder engine, which is capable of reaching 192 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. Buyers looking for the turbo-charged four-cylinder engine will need to step into the SX or Limited models, as this engine is not available in the EX or LX.

Outside, both the EX and LX have front fog lights, dual exhaust chrome tips and mirror turn signals. Technology found in both Optimas include Bluetooth, SiriusXM audio,USB ports, active Eco system, and optional UVO eServices.

Both vehicles ride on 16” wheels and hold high-performance dampers.

So where do the vehicles differ?
Most buyers will first notice the difference in starting price. The LX model starts at a very affordable price of $21,500, while the EX moves slightly up the scale to $23,950. This difference is largely due to the longer list of standard features in the EX model, some of which are not available in the LX.

For starters, the EX comes with leather seats and optional heated front and rear seats. The LX, meanwhile, comes only with cloth seating without a heated or cooled option.

The EX also comes standard with a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a feature that is optional on the Optima LX.

While it may sound like the EX is hogging all the luxury items, drivers interested in the LX model can choose the LX Convenience Plus package, which brings a rear-camera display, the 10-way adjustable power seat, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.
