If not planned out carefully, transporting your holiday meals can be very dangerous.
Placing dishes on your lap can burn you and can end up all over your clothes, floor and seat upholstery. If dishes are on your lap when you get into a car accident or during emergency braking, it can become a lethal weapon.
Learn how to be safe in a car with holiday meals!
- Try to bring food in glass dishes with plastic lids and a zip-up carrying case. To make sure that it is secure in the car, place it in the trunk and on top of a rubber mat.
- If transporting a slow cooker, try to use one that has a lockable lid so it does not leak. Then, tie down the slow cooker with a few bungee cords.
- Line a laundry basket with towels to transport dishes and pies. If the dish was to spill, the towels will absorb the moisture.
- Place a dish into a cooler. The insulation of the cooler will keep the food warm. To make sure that the dish does not slide around, place a towel or two at the bottom.
