STRESS: An Equal Opportunity Destroyer

July 15th, 2010 · Pat McGrath Chevyland

STRESS: An Equal Opportunity Destroyer

Stress has been called an equal opportunity destroyer.  No one is immune from its effects, especially during the current economic downturn.  Acute stress is painful, but brief, and many employees are able to find ways to relieve it.  However, chronic stress takes a terrible toll on workplace productivity when it goes on for days, weeks, months, or even years.

A wise employer or supervisor will monitor employees and notice if they are in danger of experiencing burnout.  Is their job satisfaction and performance declining? Does work seem harder to manage?

A symptom checklist can help employees identify if they are experiencing burnout and are at risk for illness or even more severe consequences.  Employees may be burning out if they:  [Read more →]

Chevy Camaro Wins Edmunds.com 2010 Launch Breakthrough Award; Top Ten Launches Include Seven Domestic Cars

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — June 29, 2010 — Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information, today announced that winner of the first annual Edmunds.com Launch Breakthrough Award is the Chevy Camaro.

The Edmunds.com Launch Breakthrough Award is provided annually to a vehicle that earns the highest overall score in a thorough analysis of 18 factors associated with the launch of a new vehicle, including pricing, sales, market share, dealer profit margins, incentives, consumer consideration, consumer ratings, inventory levels and residual values for all eligible vehicles. A total of 54 vehicles were eligible for the 2010 award. To be eligible, an all-new or totally redesigned vehicle had to be launched between January 1 and December 1, 2009 and must sell at a rate of at least 100 vehicles per month.

“The Launch Breakthrough Award recognizes the vehicle that had the most successful introduction of the past year,” stated Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Ray Zhou, PhD. “According to our analysis, seven of the top ten launches were domestic vehicles, and many of those new cars are still selling at an impressive rate.”

The top ten vehicle launches of the year were:   [Read more →]

New Vehicle Quality; Detroit Makes Gains ahead of Imports

June 17th, 2010 · Automotive News

DETROIT — Dragged down by Toyota Motor Corp., the quality of new cars and trucks sold in the United States slipped slightly this year — the first time since 2007, according to a study released today.

But Detroit’s automakers have matched or surpassed Asian and European rivals in initial vehicle quality for the first time, based on the closely watched J.D. Power and Associates survey.

For the 2010 model year, General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group averaged 108 problems per 100 vehicles, compared with 109 problems for every 100 Asian and European vehicles, J.D. Power said today.

For Detroit automakers, the results contrast sharply with a year ago, when the bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler underscored longtime consumer perceptions about the quality of domestic brands.

“This year may mark a key turning point for U.S. brands as they continue to fight the battle against lingering negative perceptions of their quality,” said Sargent. “Achieving quality comparability is the first half of the battle. Convincing consumers — particularly import buyers — that they have done this is the second half.”
