The “Swiss Army Knife” of Vehicles Available at Cedar Rapids Dodge Dealer
The 2012 Dodge Journey is fresh off a complete redesign with a new suspension, a potent V6 and an upscale interior that belies its price tag, making it the most affordable midsize crossover in the country. With best-in-class storage flexibility that includes fold-flat seats, in-floor and “Flip-N-Stow” in-seat storage, it has the utility that makes it an indispensable partner for so many drivers.
There isn’t another crossover on the market that offers customers so much choice: Economical four-cylinder or powerful new V6, a completely redesigned and re-tuned suspension, five or seven-passenger seating and front- or all-wheel drive. The Journey is available in a range of configurations that you simply won’t find anywhere else. You might also be surprised to note the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail on display in the Journey. Inside, you’ll find a premium, soft-touch, one-piece instrument panel with standard Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), and the center console features premium cushioning on the tilt-and-slide armrest. Under the console lid is a large center storage bin with a 12-volt outlet and USB port for MP3/iPod® charging.
Dodge engineers took great care in noise, vibration and harshness reduction, employing several treatments to isolate the cabin for a quiet, premium ride.
For 2012, the Dodge Journey is available in five models, starting with the all-new American Value Package (AVP) and progressing to the SE, SXT, Crew and R/T. The Dodge Journey AVP MSRP of $18,995 can’t be matched by any other manufacturer. For that reasonable starting price, you are treated to a fuel-efficient, 2.4-liter 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine producing 173 hp and 166 lb/ft of torque, linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. The “value” proposition of the Journey AVP doesn’t stop with the MSRP either. With EPA estimates of 26 mpg highway, the value builds as you drive.
The Journey AVP has a standard features list that will make you look twice at its low MSRP. Air conditioning, a 4.3-inch Uconnect® Touch media center, Keyless Enter-N-Go with Push Button Start, premium soft-touch surfaces and power windows, locks and mirrors are all features you’d only expect on crossovers with higher prices. Safety equipment like electronic stability control, Brake Assist, all-speed traction control, antilock brakes, advanced multi-stage front airbags, side-curtain airbags, front seat-mounted airbags and active front head restraints are all a part of that standard package. For just $19,990, you can configure the Journey AVP for seven-passenger seating, which makes it the most affordable seven-passenger vehicle in America.
The Journey SE adds deep-tint sunscreen glass, roof rails and distinctive LED taillamps to the already impressive list of standard features, and it also provides access to a number of stand-alone options and option groups such as the 17-inch Wheel and Tire Package and the Sound Group, which includes an overhead console, illuminated visor/vanity mirrors, dual- or three-zone automatic temperature control (depending on whether you’ve chosen a five- or seven-passenger seating configuration), passenger assist handle, universal garage door opener, six premium speakers and Uconnect Touch® with an 8.4-inch screen.
At the heart of the Dodge Journey SXT is the award-winning new Pentastar V6, which is included on Ward’s AutoWorld “10 Best Engines” list. This engine, which produces 283 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque, works with a six-speed automatic transmission to deliver an EPA estimated 25 mpg on the highway. The SXT is also outfitted with a number of exterior features that make it distinctive: A unique front fascia, dual bright exhaust tips, foglamps and 17-inch aluminum wheels. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is also part of the standard features list. The SXT can be equipped with seven-passenger seating and all-wheel drive.
The Dodge Journey Crew features the 3.6-liter V6 and six-speed automatic. It also adds the visual impact of 19-inch aluminum wheels, bright door handles and roof rails. Inside, the Dodge Journey Crew features an 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect Media Center, six premium speakers with a subwoofer, a fold-flat front passenger’s seat with in-seat storage, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shiftknob, remote start, automatic temperature control and a security alarm. The Journey Crew also offers the luxury of available premium leather seating and heated front seats. Like the SXT, the Journey Crew can be outfitted with either five- or seven-passenger seating configurations and is available with all-wheel drive.
Like the AVP trim, the Dodge Journey R/T is also new for 2012, but it launches later in the year. When it arrives, it will feature a unique monochromatic paint scheme, 19-inch aluminum wheels and black leather seating with red stitching. Again, the R/T is available with both AWD and seven-passenger seating.
The 2012 Dodge Journey’s architecture provides an exhilarating driving experience, along with precision steering for maximum vehicle control. The available all-wheel drive system works by driving only the front wheels until power to the rear wheels is needed, which maximizes the Journey’s remarkable fuel efficiency. Between speeds of 25 and 65 mph, all-wheel drive is also in play on dry pavement to enhance handling during performance driving. At over 25, the system sends torque to the rear wheels for more neutral handling. At speeds greater than 53 mph, the control strategy provides minimal torque to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions to provide better fuel economy.
