Cedar Falls, IA

Tiffin, IA
Tell us a little about your family (pets included!):
My Fiancee, Autumn, is a developer at IDT. We have two dogs, a big, dumb, loveable Pitbull mutt and a charming little Shiba-Eskimo who is too smart for his own good.
What was your first job? Did you love or hate it?
My first real job was working construction on a Framing crew in Cedar Falls. I loved it because I love working with my hands.
What has your career been like so far?
I’ve had a wild ride in searching for the right career path. There have been lots of ups and downs and I discovered that I can get into just about anything—even Human Resources.–but in the long run I’ve always most enjoyed working in sales.
Why did you want to become an Emerging Leader?
I am of the belief that you can always improve yourself and that if you’re doing business as usual, you’re already falling behind. I also feel that Emerging Leaders is an opportunity not only to better myself professionally as a leader and as a contributor to the team, but could help me learn skills that apply to my personal life.
What’s an accomplishment that you’re proud of?
Becoming engaged, it only took me three years to get her to say yes.
What’s a passion that gets you fired up for your day?
The drive to do better than I did yesterday and the fresh opportunity to make someone’s day.
Who’s someone you admire, and why do you look up to them?
I admire Ben Rusnak; his absolute positivity is infectious.
Williams Whereabouts!
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy building things out of wood and doing smaller crafts, especially with my fiancée.
One thing you want to do before you die:
I would like to travel to Australia
Personal motto:
Keep your head straight, your heart strong, and look issues directly in the eyes
Something you’re good at that might surprise people?
I baked not one but TWO perfect loafs of banana bread recently.
What’s your definition of happiness?
There are no specific requirements to make someone truly happy—it could be the result of some small kindness or just an attitude in itself. It could be balance in your life.
What’s a piece of advice someone gave you that you apply everyday?
“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” -Napoleon Hill
What do you hope to achieve at McGrath?
I would love to move up within the company and eventually end up working as a front end manager
