Every year, vehicles are categorized and tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, IIHS. These tests become more rigorous each year but the vehicles that perform acceptable or above are given the title Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick +.
IIHS Top Safety Pick Vehicle Tests
The IIHS tests include both driver and passenger-side roof strength, sides, head restraint, small overlap front, and moderate overlap front. After each test, the vehicle will be given a poor, marginal, acceptable, or good rating.
Top Safety Pick VS Top Safety Pick +
After the vehicles that received an acceptable or a good rating, they are then awarded Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick +. The difference between the two awards is one determining factor, the headlights. If the heads lights are acceptable or good and comes standard, the vehicle is awarded Top Safety Pick Plus.
